The Uncovered Secret Sin explores the hidden history of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home in Ireland, focusing on the abuse, neglect and deaths of women and children between 1925 and 1960. The collection examines how these traumatic realities existed behind the wealth, beauty and visual symbolism associated with Catholicism.

Atkinson uses the visual language of Catholic imagery as a deliberate contrast to the darker history it concealed. Rich embellishment, intricate hand embroidery and ornate textile surfaces create an initial sense of beauty and grandeur, while darker references within the work reveal the suffering and secrecy beneath that exterior.

The collection was developed through extensive research into the experiences of those affected by the Tuam Mother and Baby Home, with the work seeking to acknowledge the lives lost and the families whose stories remained hidden for decades. The collection includes four major textile works, including a 10-foot cape featuring 802 embroidered shamrocks, representing the children who died at the home.

The Uncovered Secret Sin received multiple awards and recognition, including Hand & Lock Student First Place and Creative Conscience Best in Show, and was featured in a BBC News article in 2023.
